This is another of my\u00a0 old\/new pages. I went to Nepal for two fantastic weeks in March\/April 1999 but only in 2022 did I scan in my old photos and dig out my old diaries to put some text with the photos. I always regret not taking more photos or taking more notes but it’s been a pleasant trip down memory lane for me to revisit one of the most fascinating places I have ever visited.<\/p>\n

During my two weeks I spent some time exploring Kathmandu and then going on a trek in the Langtang valley. One my return I spent a few days visiting the towns of the Kathmandu valley and that is how the posts are arranged. Enjoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Sat 27th March 1999, Potala Guest House, Kathmandu. (Exchange Rate 67Rs = $1) I arrived in Kathmandu with a hugely swollen neck, felt shivery and weak. Not the ideal start to a holiday. I’d contracted some disease while in Sri Lanka (I was living there at the time) two weeks or so previously. I had seen a doctor and he had prescribed antibiotics but they didn’t seem to be doing any good. However, I had already paid for my flights…<\/p>\n

Langtang Trek <\/a><\/h2> 7 Apr 1999 \n\n\t\n\t

Before I start this post I must make a reference to the horrendous earthquake and subsequent avalanche in 2015 which completely destroyed Langtang village where I stayed on this trek. Since then it has been completely rebuilt. Some other places I stayed remarkably are still there. Diary entry, Tuesday 30th March 1999, Langtang View Hotel, Dunche. Got a taxi from Hotel at 6am. Diary entry, Wed 7th April. Souvenir Guest House, Kathmandu. “Stomach feeling a bit upset. After 10 hrs getting shaken hither and thither on the bus I checked into the hotel, showered and had a big juicy steak at G’s terrace. After a week of no meat I think I overdid it.
